Mohan wrote his first book, Hot Sand, a travelogue, whilst working in the Middle East in 2006. However, it was published after Katharagama—City of the Divine Spirit (2016), a work of non-fiction on the Katharagama cult in Sri Lanka, and Dasa Diga Seriya (2018), his debut translation of Arthur Mason's novel Wide Seas and Many Lands. From 2022, Mohan devoted most of his time to translating award-winning contemporary novels by Indian, Nepali, Israeli, French, and Nigerian authors into Sinhala. These authors include Deepa Anappara, Geetanjali Shree, Smriti Ravindra, David Grossman, Jean-Paul Faure, and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. His translations encompass Djinn Patrol on the Purple Line, Tomb of Sand (the 2022 International Booker Prize-winning translation of Geetanjali Shree's Ret Samadhi by Daisy Rockwell), The Woman Who Climbed Trees, A Horse Walks into a Bar, Back to Jaffna, and Half of a Yellow Sun. During 2022-2023, Mohan contributed numerous articles to Aruna daily and weekend newspapers as a freelance writer.

Mohan is a passionate enthusiast of Second World War cinema and literature, both fiction and non-fiction.
